Body Mechanics

Body mechanics relates to the way you hold your body when you move around, sit, stand, lift, carry, bend, and sleep. Another way to think of body mechanics is your posture or form. The components are body alignment (posture), balance, and coordinated movement.

Proper body mechanics help you avoid muscle fatigue and injuries as you walk, bend over, and lift objects. At the workplace, sitting in one position and being sedentary for hours at a time can also create poor body mechanics. Individuals can experience neck, upper back, and shoulder pain or in other words, “text neck” when improperly using their personal devices. When the body is aligned, body parts are in position create balance and function.

Tui Na Therapy

Tui Na (pronounced “twee nah”) means to push and pull. It is a form of therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, involving the use of bodywork such as massage and acupressure. Tui Na therapy is not generally used for pleasure, but to rid the body of disturbances including pain, illness, and emotional issues.

It is based on the belief that disharmony in the body’s energy, or qi, causes blockages that manifest as symptoms like pain and illness. Similarly to acupuncture, it targets specific acupoints, but practitioners use fingers instead of needles.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with Tui Na Therapy to maximize each techniques effectiveness. Practitioners use needles at certain pressure points (Meridian points) on the body to alleviate pain and treat various health conditions such as sports related injuries, headaches, lower back pain, neck pain, menstrual cramps, respiratory disorders, and joint pain, just to name a few.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy. It mainly treats musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying firm and sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

This type of massage can be used for chronic aches and pain such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders. It is also helpful to treat athletes in maintaining their health.

Myofascial Therapy

Myofascial Therapy releases the muscular shortness and tightness in different areas of the body. Myofascial therapy only deals with myofascial release massage and myofascial cupping, which focuses on the connective tissues around and supporting the muscles. This goes well for those who have chronic pain, are recovering from an injury, or who are going through disorders like fibromyalgia and back pain. This practice treats not only to reduce pain but also to improve mobility, hence ensuring improvement in physical health from an overall point of view with the use of myofascial physical therapy and myofascial stretch therapy.

Stretch Therapy

Stretch Therapy or Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF for short) is assisted stretching in which the person receiving the stretch will gently press back into the stretch when cued. The press and release techniques can help release tension and increase flexibility quicker than standard static stretching.

Almost everyone can benefit from stretch therapy. Flexibility and range of motion can increase just after one session. Stretch therapy can reduce stress, improve posture, decrease muscle and joint pain, prevent injuries as well as boost sports performance.
